The prodigy and pillar, the producer and pioneer, the man with the S on his chest, indeed the Superman of hiphop culture has transitioned. I didn’t quite grow up paying attention to him as I did other DJ’s, nonetheless I was always aware of his name, face, and character, because it truly felt as staple as gazel frames, a sheep skin coat, or a clark wallabee shoe.

I heard speculations of him not being well and struggling with some health issues for some time, but once I heard Dame Dash speak on it, I had no credulity to believe he was near his last days.

From the era of little fatuous behavior, he locked in his name from a early age. Representing Brooklyn, NYC to the fullest, with a family of Panamanian descent, he grew into a 1 of 1 , taking the fundamentals of a hiphop dj into a industry powerhouse. He was younger than Grand Master Flash but older than DJ Clue and helped usher in the BK addition to the golden era of hiphop, in a such a unique manner.

He helped Mcees like the Notorious BIG and Jay-Z, go from humble obscure beginnings to the heights they grew to crown. Maybe his neighborhood of Crown Heights had something to do with his ability to emerge and help lead leaders.

He was never known for insolence or being a party guy beyond providing the sounds as the DJ. he was known as a family man, who represented a wholesome mind and lifestyle, but kept his ear and heart to the street.

Clark’s love to help expand the culture, was known by all apart of it. He helped develop the criterion in what is arguably the most powerful sector of time in hiphop. I think of Jay- Z’s ” A Million”…yea, and I see Clark Kent as I see Hov and Premo, if not a bit more somehow. I always wondered why he wasn’t apart of Rocafella team officially like a Biggs, Dame or Emory because he was truly 1 in a million.

He produced a few classics as well, one of my favorite was “Playas Anthem” which should have ft Nasir Jones. Take a minute to let that sink in.

Clark was a spark like Superman, with a Last Dragon alter ego.

Thank you for being exclusive, 1 of 1 you, Thank you for working and being a student of the craft, Thank you for presenting the world to Clark Kent.

Shout out to Grand Master Flowers, Fatman Scoop write up is next.
